The PYRO option extends the Thermal Desorption Unit TDU 2 to form a complete pyrolyzer that is loaded automatically by the MultiPurposeSampler MPS. Using the pyrolyzer, you can perform a diverse range of pyrolysis techniques. It also allows the multi-fractional thermal analysis of a sample to be performed. The pyrolyzer can be used in many areas, for example in quality assurance in the polymer industry, forensic science or damage analytics, but also in environmental analytics for determining microplastics. You can convert the pyrolyzer back to a TDU 2 at any time. The system is controlled using the MAESTRO software.
Functional principle of the PYRO option
A pyro module is inserted into the TDU 2, turning the TDU 2 into a pyrolyzer. The samples are located in special pyro tubes. For pyrolysis, the MPS transports a pyro tube into the pyrolyzer, where the sample is pyrolyzed at temperatures of between 100 °C and 1000 °C. The dynamic heater enables a diverse range of pyrolysis techniques to be performed, from pulse pyrolysis and EGA to smart ramp pyrolysis. Temperature validation takes place at the location of the samples. Pyrolysis can be combined with a thermal desorption step to remove impurities. Once pyrolysis is complete, the pyrolysate can be cryofocused in the Cooled Injection System CIS or immediately transferred to the GC column for analysis.
Using the pyrolyzer, unknown macro modules can be analyzed using GC/MS. The sample is introduced automatically by the MPS. The rapid and controlled temperature ramps of the pyrolyzer enable a diverse range of pyrolysis techniques to be performed. Thanks to the smart ramp technology, a single analysis will provide you with comprehensive information about unknown samples. Time-consuming method optimization is therefore no longer required. You can convert the pyrolyzer back to a TDU 2 at any time. Thanks to the MAESTRO software, controlling the system as a whole is simple and intuitive.
