The Mülheim Business Award is presented annually with a changing theme to acknowledge the diversity of businesses in the city. This year, the focus is on sustainability because sustainable practices can turn companies into role models for the city's economy and beyond. The ideas and approaches are meant to be showcased and serve as inspiration for others.
In total, five companies from Mülheim were shortlisted from numerous applications and will have the opportunity to present themselves at a gala evening event on November 3, 2023. A seven-member jury will decide the winner.
The Mülheim Business Award is presented by the Mayor of Mülheim an der Ruhr, Marc Buchholz. GERSTEL has rightfully earned a spot in the finals of the Mülheim Business Award, highlighting recognition for the company's commitment to sustainability. GERSTEL's example demonstrates that sustainability is not only ecologically sensible but also offers economic advantages for companies.
Between 2004 and 2005, under the leadership of CEO Holger Gerstel, the company took bold steps towards sustainability. In the context of their new corporate building, the company opted for geothermal heating and invested several hundred thousand euros in this sustainable technology.
Currently, the internal Sustainability Project Group is diligently working towards achieving ISO 14001 certification by the end of 2023. In addition, all employees can contribute ideas for improving sustainability measures through the company's suggestion system.
In the realm of social sustainability, GERSTEL promotes company events, alternative working time models, and professional development, and is introducing a code of conduct that defines the company's social and moral principles.
