The µSPE option enables the automation of conventional solid phase extraction immediately before injection using the MultiPurposeSampler MPS. Using the µSPE option, you can enrich and purify analytes from a sample. A full, automated solid phase extraction on a miniaturized scale in a single-use cartridge can only be performed using small quantities of sample. The µSPE option is especially suitable for the automated clean-up of samples, such as QuEChERS extracts. The system is controlled using the MAESTRO software. Within the software itself, all sample preparation steps can be prepped ahead to save time.

Functional principle of the µSPE option

The µSPE option offers a variety of possible applications, clean-Up and enrichment. Once cleaned or enriched, the sample is collected in a clean open vial and can be injected from there. In both cases, the MPS uses special µSPE cartridges that are transported with the assistance of the syringe. The MPS draws up the sample or solvent into the syringe, takes hold of a cartridge and injects the liquid into the cartridge. If needed, the MPS injects various solvents into the cartridge in order to perform subsequent steps. A new cartridge is used for each new sample. The steps can be incorporated within the automated sample preparation process using the MPS immediately before injection.

Benefits

The µSPE option is a fast, inexpensive alternative for the automated purification of (QuEChERS) extracts. Purification can be performed immediately before injection, in order to remove any unwelcome matrix components. To perform the solid phase extraction using the µSPE option, you only need a small quantity of the sample. The small quantity of sample allows extraction to be performed more quickly compared to conventional solid phase extraction using the SPE 2 option and reduces the quantity of solvent consumed. The use of single-use cartridges prevents carryover and largely removes the need to perform time-consuming rinsing steps. Thanks to the MAESTRO software, controlling the system as a whole is simple and intuitive.
