Contamination of food products with hydrocarbons is an ongoing issue, and any stage of the value chain can be affected.

These contaminants from mineral oils can be roughly divided into saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons (MOSH & MOAH). The analytical implementation of separation into MOSH/MOAH fraction and detection as sum parameter is enabled by on-line coupled HPLC-GC-FID. Biogenic hydrocarbons and synthetic oligomers (e.g. POSH) are also included in the analysis.
